One quiz a day
Most quiz pages let you play round after round for as long as you like, and that is exactly what my regular Trivia Quiz is for. This page does something different. Once a day there are ten questions, the same ten for every person who opens this page anywhere in the world, and then the day's quiz is finished. Tomorrow there is a new ten.
The limit means a session takes a few minutes and there is no temptation to keep clicking for another round.
Five topics in one quiz
The questions are drawn from the same five topics as the regular quiz: Classic Movies, Golden Oldies Music, General Knowledge, Nature and Gardening, and Food and Cooking. Rather than choosing one topic and staying there, the Daily Trivia mixes all five together, so a single ten-question quiz might ask about a 1950s film, then a garden bird, then a capital city, then a kitchen ingredient. Nobody chooses a topic on this page: the mix is decided for you, the same way for everybody.
Everyone gets the same ten
Today's ten questions are chosen from today's date, so every person answering this page today is answering the identical quiz. Nobody gets an easier set, and no question repeats within the same day's quiz. You can compare notes with a friend and you will both have had the same questions.
The day changes at midnight UTC, the same moment Daily Sudoku and Daily Cat Sudoku change over. That is midnight in London in winter, seven in the evening in New York, and mid-morning in Australia, so the new quiz may land at an unusual hour where you live, but it lands at the same instant for everyone.
Getting one wrong, or missing a day
Answer all ten and the page shows your score along with the correct answer for anything you missed. There is no timer or life to lose, and you cannot fail a quiz.
Finish the quiz and the site quietly counts the day. Come back tomorrow and finish again and it counts two days running, and so on. That count lives on your own device only: there is no account attached to it, and nobody else can see it. Miss a day and the count starts again from one, with no notice or email.
More than ten a day
For more, use the regular Trivia Quiz to choose your own topic and play as many rounds as you like, with a fresh set of ten questions and freshly shuffled answers every time. You can also try Daily Sudoku or the full set of brain puzzles.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the Daily Trivia work?
- Ten multiple-choice questions a day, mixed across five topics, and every person who opens this page on a given day gets the identical set. Tap an answer, see whether you were right, and move to the next question. Finish all ten and you see your score plus the correct answer for anything you missed.
- Can I pick a topic, like on the regular quiz?
- Not on this page: the mix of topics is chosen for you, the same way for everyone, which is what keeps the daily quiz identical worldwide. If you would rather choose a topic yourself, the regular Trivia Quiz lets you do that and play as many rounds as you like.
- Is there a timer or a way to lose?
- No. Take all the time you like on every question. There is no clock and there are no lives. The only thing kept from one day to the next is a count of how many days in a row you have finished a quiz.
- What happens if I get a question wrong?
- You are told right away, in words as well as colour, and the round carries on. Once all ten are answered, the correct answer for anything you missed is shown again on the results screen, so you leave knowing the right answer either way.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. You do not need to download anything, sign up or give an email. There are no pop-ups and nothing that sits over the quiz itself. To keep the site free I may show a few small, clearly-marked ads off to the side.
